This week on Sparta Chicks Radio, you’ll meet the (appropriately named), Terra Roam.
And roam, she does.
In 2017, Terra completed the Happy Walk, a 16,000km walk - solo and without the assistance of a support vehicle - throughout Australia.
The walk took over 4 years to complete and raised funds for Lifeline and awareness about suicide prevention.
And Terra only has about 400-500m to go before she will become the first woman to walk around Australia, solo and without the assistance of a support vehicle.
For much of her walk, she was accompanied only by Dory, her bright blue and yellow custom-build barrow.
Terra’s story is of a girl who discovered a love of and connection with nature from a very young age.
But who didn’t realise until later in life that she had been using walking as a form of therapy to recover from the trauma she has experienced and the social anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) she has since been diagnosed with.
In this conversation, we discuss:
You may want to use headphones for this episode if there are sensitive ears around. While we don’t go into detail, there are references to mental illness, suicide, grooming of a minor and rape in this conversation.
This is in some ways a heavy conversation but also a light, inspiring and uplifting one too.
Terra laughs a lot in this conversation and is on a mission to bust the stigma our society has about talking openly about these topics and getting the help you need.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
